Agriculture and its allied sectors form the backbone of India’s economy, providing livelihood to a large section of the population, especially in rural areas, and contributing significantly to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Sustainable agriculture is essential for ensuring food security, generating rural employment, and promoting environmentally responsible practices such as soil conservation, sustainable natural resource management, and biodiversity protection.

The four-year Honours course B.Sc. (Hons) In Agriculture & Rural Development was established in 2025. In today’s context, where sustainable agriculture and the effective utilization of rural resources have become critical issues, the programme holds immense academic and societal relevance.

The curriculum offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary understanding of agriculture, covering areas such as agronomy, genetics and plant breeding, agricultural entomology, horticulture, animal science, soil science, agricultural economics, agribusiness management, and agricultural technology. The programme emphasizes the application of scientific knowledge and modern technologies to improve agricultural productivity in a sustainable manner.

The programme prepares students for diverse academic and professional pathways, including:

• Higher Studies in specialized areas of agricultural and allied sciences

• Employability in government, research institutions, extension services, and agribusiness sectors

• Entrepreneurship through agri-based enterprises, startups, and rural development initiatives

The programme aims to develop skilled, socially responsible agricultural professionals capable of contributing effectively to sustainable agricultural development and rural transformation.
